S.O.S Strengthening Over
Sixties
The Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre has been offering 'Seniors' fitness classes for local residents since October 2003.
The Strengthening for Over 60's exercise program developed at St George Hospital after much research, has been an overwhelming success in the Mid Mountains with over 60 local residents participating in six separate classes each week.
Research suggests that resistance or strength training can improve strength, functional ability, balance & bone density.
It can also reduce cardiovascular risk factors and depression in older people. In other words, it can greatly assist ageing residents to remain physically able and independent for longer.
Participants were already feeling some very real physical benefits of the exercises and many have said how much they enjoy the company of others in their area.
So if you're are around 60 (you can be younger) and would like to give this program a go, give us a call at the Mid Mountains NeighbourÂhood Centre and we can send you out some information and the Medical Clearance form for your Doctor to sign.
We have four regular classes running and are now accepting enrollments for new classes to start next term, commencing in line with each new School term.
The classes are held weekly for one hour during the School terms and cost just $60 for a full 10 week term.
Class numbers are limited so make sure you get your forms filled out ASAP.
For more information about the classes, call the Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre on 47-59 2592 or the instructor Nicky on 0415 524953
